"Third Album" was released in september 1970 while the Jackson 5 knew their glory year. The group linked TV shows, concerts, and teens magazines covers. The first song to be released was "I'll Be There", a few weeks before the album, in August. The song became the third Motown best selling single, behind Marvin Gaye's "I've Heard It Through the Grapewine" and Diana Ross & Lionel Richie's "Endless Love".
I'll Be There was followed by Mama's Pearl early 1971. Two other singles were released out of USA : How Funky Is Your Chicken and Goin' Back To Indiana.
The album is larded with cover versions like : a cover of Simon & Garfunkel (Bridge Over Troubled Water), one of Smokey Robinson & The Miracles (The Love I Saw In You Was Just A Mirage) and an adaptation of the gospel Oh How Happy. To be noted : the song Ready Or Not, which inspired the Fugees hit in 1996. I'll Be There, an J5 original, was the first success of Mariah Carey, in 1992. Third Album is the Jackson 5's best selling album, with more than 6 millions copies.
